History
The concept of the Healthy Hoosiers Alliance was born in 2007 at a meeting attended by the CEOs of Eli Lilly and Company and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. The two leaders recognized that since both companies share a mission of improving public health, they could have a greater impact by working collaboratively rather than separately.
Representatives from each company met in 2007 and selected diabetes and pre-diabetes as the first area of focus for the alliance. The focus of the effort would begin in Indiana where both organizations are headquartered.
A workshop was conducted in 2007 to identify the key needs of consumers at risk or living with diabetes. Special consideration was given to the demands on a person through the course of daily life. Other organizations were invited to attend and contribute to the workshop. These organizations subsequently joined Lilly and Anthem as part of this unique alliance.
